When family comes first, an intimate cabin on the water in Maine is all you really need to bring your dream wedding day to life
Today I found myself reminiscing back to the wedding of a sweet couple who’s wedding I officiated in October of 2016. Set at an adorable little Airbnb cabin right on the water in the quiet rural town of Brownfield, Maine, Alexandria and Andrew’s story is honestly like one you only see in the movies, except they are the real deal, my friends.
Middle-school sweethearts and best friends, these two had quite literally grown up together and it was no secret that they’d make an honest couple of each other by tying the knot surrounded by their family. It was important to them that their wedding day be a celebration of love and family and much less about elaborate details so they invited those that meant most to them to join them at a rustic little cabin on the water in their new home state of Maine to witness the exchanging of their vows and the official joining of their families together.
What I remember most about Alexandria and Andrew’s wedding is how genuinely excited their family was for them. Everyone present had been personal witness to the love they had cultivated over the years and were so eager to finally see them become husband and wife. Because they weren’t originally from Maine, this meant their family had traveled from all over to join them – what I loved most was seeing how close knit they all were, regardless of distance or time. In the short time I got to spend with them, they made me feel like one of their own – a beautiful reminder that family is the most important thing in life. And, the icing on the cake was that when I first met with the couple, we realized that the groom had just been hired at the company I work for so, I knew immediately that they were “my kind of people” – talk about a small world!
Some of their simple and intentional details include:
- Seasonal flower and crop arrangements
- Home-cooked family recipes
- A ceremony prayer (that brought grandma to tears)
- DIY Décor
- A rustic cabin just big enough to gather for a weekend filled with love
- A back drop with a view that only Maine can provide
The memories of this wedding day will stay with me always – while a rustic cabin venue with simple details and an intimate guests list might not be for everyone – All this group needed was each other and it was simply wonderful to see how meaningful this day was for all of them.
